Installing JAWS, ZoomText or Fusion Home Annual Version 

(free one-year license, can be renewed year-to-year)

 

JAWS, ZoomText and Fusion are products developed by Freedom Scientific for persons with reading disabilities. These products can be installed on personal computers running Microsoft Windows.

JAWS (Job Access With Speech) is a PC screen reader program. ZoomText is a PC magnification and reading program tailored for low-vision users. Fusion combines both JAWS and ZoomText in one program.

Students and employees of UNTHSC qualify to download a free one-year license of any of these products on personal devices. Follow the steps below for installation.  

  1. Go to https://portal.freedomscientific.com/HomeUse/HigherEd
  2. Enter your unthsc.edu email address. (Staff or student)
  3. You will be sent a confirmation email.
  4. Complete registration with the registration link provided in the email.
  5. Create an account. Choose JAWS, ZoomText or Fusion Home Annual version to install on the device you are on. Must have administrative privileges to install on your device. 
  6. To install on other compatible devices, simply login to your Freedom Scientific account on that device, then choose the product you want to install. Your licenses are good for one year from install and can be renewed year-to-year. You can install this license on up to three personal devices. 

 

Note these products require either a Microsoft Windows 10 or 11 operating system.

Our website uses the WCAG 2.1 guidelines from the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). It also uses criteria included in the Section 508 Refresh Report, the proposed new Section 508 Standards.

Content-bearing images may use alternative attributes (alt-text) to identify the image. All pages contain a “Skip to Main Content” link to facilitate navigation by screen readers and other non-mouse modes of input. Many of these design elements help people with eye conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinitis pigmentosa.
