Introduction to the DAI Course Development Toolkit

Welcome to the Division of Academic Innovation’s Course Development Toolkit, which contains the following documents:

  • Online Course Development Timeline
  • Online Course Map Template
  • Start of Semester Canvas Checklist
  • Revised Blooms Taxonomy Action Verbs
  • Quality Matters Higher Education Rubric
  • Online Course Accessibility Checklist
  • Strategies for Inclusive Teaching Worksheet

Though several documents indicate that they are designed for online courses, the same content can generally be used for face-to-face courses. Below is a brief summary of each document.

Online Course Development Timeline

If you are developing a new online course, this document provides the timeline from approval to develop to ready to launch.

Online Course Map Template

The Online Course Map Template provides the essential elements of a course. This template can also be used for face-to-face courses.

Start of the Semester Checklist

The Start of the Semester Checklist is useful for both online and face-to-face courses. It provides a detailed list of the essential tasks as you prepare for each new semester.

Revised Blooms Taxonomy Action Verbs

Action verbs are a vital element of Course Learning Objectives (CLOs), which are needed for both online and face-to-face courses. The Revised Blooms Taxonomy Action Verbs provides a starter list of action verbs for the various categories of Bloom’s Taxonomy.

Quality Matters Higher Education Rubric

The Quality Matters Higher Education Rubric provides the essential elements for online courses. However, since HSC utilizes the Canvas learning management system, many, it not all, of the QM Rubric’s elements are relevant to face-to-face courses.

Online Course Accessibility Checklist

Though this document is titled the Online Course Accessibility Checklist, accessibility is a vital component to courses of any format.

Strategies for Inclusive Teaching Worksheet

This help sheet was developed by the Online Learning Consortium. As with other documents in the Course Development Toolkit, elements are applicable to any course format.
