NOTE: Unfortunately at this point, this is a manual process.
STEP 1
Temporarily unpublish the page or quiz where you video will be embedded. This is to prevent students from viewing the video before the allowed time.
We will publish the page in STEP 10 again.
STEP 2
In your Canvas course, navigate to the page or quiz where the video should be embedded and click Edit.
Click on the External tools icon and then click Mediasite
STEP 3
Select the presentation you want to add to the page, or, type the name, course ID or presenter name in the search field
For example: MEDE.8810
STEP 4
Click on the Embed button to the right of the video and select:
- Player Only for only embedding the video into the page
- Abstract Only for adding the video title, description and a thumbnail photo of the video
- Presentation Link for embedding a link to the video
- Abstract + Player adding the Video title, Description and a thumbnail of the video
The most frequently used selections are the Player Only and the Presentation Link.
STEP 5
Click the Save button
STEP 6
Click on My Mediasite button in your canvas course, and then click Authorize
STEP 7
Click on the Search Icon, and enter the course ID, semester or title of the video you just embedded and press Enter
For example: MEDE.8810 Spring 2019
STEP 8
Select a video from the search results
STEP 9
In the Visibility section, click on the dropdown box and change the visibility from Viewable to Private
NOTE: Changes are saved immediately.
With the visibility set to Private, only the owner of the video can play the video and no-one else and the video will appear as not ready.
STEP 10
Publish the page or quiz.
The page will now contain an embedded video, but only the owner of the video can play the video and no-one else.
STEP 11
On the day and time of the quiz, repeat STEP 6 through STEP 8
In the Visibility section, click on the dropdown box and change the visibility from Private to Viewable
NOTE: Changes are saved immediately.
With the visibility set to Viewable, all the students assigned to the course will be able to view and play the video.
